Ragtime Concert by Kirby and Majchrzak at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center

It’s going to be a two-in-one ragtime performance at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center this upcoming St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17. Two of the country’s most well-known ragtime performers, Scott Kirby and Dave Majchrzak, will be stopping in Tulsa to bring this fun, classic genre of music to Oklahoma.

Scott Kirby’s love for music started at the age of six, when he began studying music and taking piano lessons for the next 17 years. After he moved to New Orleans, he started pursuing his passion for music as a street performer and soon began gaining local fame. He then began attending major ragtime festivals throughout the country and overseas, including Hungary, Belgium and Norway.

Kirby is known for his ragtime records of the complete Scott Joplin musical library. He is also the Musical Director of the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Missouri and the Rocky Mountain Ragtime and American Music Festival in Colorado.

Dave Majchrzak’s love of music also started at the age of six. By the age of 12, he was performing ragtime in pizza parlors along with his mentor, Steve “Stubby” Heist. His professional career started at the age of 16, when he began performing on the St. Louis Riverfront excursion boats. Majchrzak has performed in many festivals in the country. He was named the 2007 Artist in Residence for the Scott Joplin Foundation and has been the Artistic Director in Missouri since 2008.
